Full Title

Meaning-Centered Grief Therapy for Parents Bereaved by Cancer: A Multisite Randomized Controlled Trial (UMiami)

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to compare three types of support for parents who have experienced the death of a child due to cancer. The study team will assess how these different types of support affect participants’ grief and depression symptoms. The three types of support parents may receive are called Meaning-Centered Grief Therapy, Supportive Counseling, and Enhanced Usual Care.

Meaning-Centered Grief Therapy focuses on helping people find a sense of meaning or purpose in their lives after loss. Supportive Counseling helps people cope with loss by providing a place to express their feelings and give them support during the sessions. Enhanced Usual Care provides parents with supportive resources, including information about grief for bereaved parents. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of these groups.
